Got A Patron Saint

How does Frances Allison Nguyet Uong sound?

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917) is Saint of the Day for November 13, which is Allison's birthday. St. Frances is the first American to be canonized into sainthood. She served the unfortunate. She represents perseverance and nobility.

Besides, Allison will have more places to visit. Her saint's birth place in Lombardy, Italy; shrine in Manhattan, New York; and a church bearing her name (St. Frances Catholic church) in Spring Hill, Florida.

* Filled with a deep trust in God and endowed with a wonderful administrative ability, this remarkable woman soon founded schools, hospitals, and orphanages in this strange land and saw them flourish in the aid of Italian immigrants and children. At the time of her death, at Chicago, Illinois on December 22, 1917, her institute numbered houses in England, France, Spain, the United States, and South America. In 1946, she became the first American citizen to be canonized when she was elevated to sainthood by Pope Pius XII. St. Frances is the patroness of immigrants. (1)

* In 35 years Frances Xavier Cabrini founded 67 institutions dedicated to caring for the poor, the abandoned, the uneducated and the sick. Seeing great need among Italian immigrants who were losing their faith, she organized schools and adult education classes. (2)
